Married To A Savage Duke - Chapter 76.2
Cade slid his gaze down her figure, thoroughly scanning her. It felt as if her winter dress-clad body had been swiftly stripped bare.
“It feels a bit cold, you know? So will you warm me up?”
If she had been standing, Cherryl would have jumped up in surprise, but instead, her shoulders shook in a gesture of disbelief. “Even if there aren’t many people around, how can you suggest such a———”
“Look, there’s a secluded space over there.”
Cade gestured towards an empty carriage on the roadside. It was the carriage that Cherryl had arrived on from the castle. His bold declaration left her speechless as she parted her lips. She couldn’t gauge whether this man’s words were sincere or just a joke.
“Are you joking?”
“A joke? Am I laughing right now?”
“You have never made a joke while laughing, Cade.”
Cade could confuse Cherryl sometimes since he always made jokes with a straight face. In any case, his suggestion of doing it inside the carriage couldn’t be real. After all, she knew that Cade was a man who didn’t like to drink so it was clear that he was playing tricks.
“Anyway, you really won’t drink?”
“Not interested.”
Even though she had opened the bottle herself and held it out, Cade didn’t seem interested in drinking. Cherryl tilted her head and soon came up with an idea.
“It won’t be fun if you’re not going to drink. Would you like to play a game with me?”
“What game is it?”
“Have you heard of the game called ‘Truth or Dare’?” Cherryl partially closed the bottle cap and placed it on the grass. “You ask questions to each other, and if the person can’t answer, they have to take the penalty drink. How about it?”
Cade, who had been leaning his body forward while resting his chin on his right hand, stared at her as if dissecting her intentions. It didn’t take him long to decide. He straightened his posture and nodded his head. “Alright.”
“Shall we start then? Ask me a question.”
“You go first.” When he yielded, Cherryl smirked.
“Beginners go first. I’ve played this game several times before.”
“Who have you played it with?” He suddenly stabbed her with his question, causing Cherryl to flinch and adopt a relaxed demeanor. She couldn’t possibly reveal that she had enjoyed drinking games in her past life. Currently, she was a noblewoman from a Marquis family. Noble women rarely engage in games that could tarnish their reputation or it might become messy. Moreover, coming to the North—— Until recently, occasions where she could enjoy drinking with others were rare for Cherryl. Lucy was the only person she could call a friend, and there was no chance she would play drinking games with a maid. While Cherryl was contemplating intensely, Cade waited in calm silence for her response. After scanning around, she eventually reached out for the bottle. “This can’t be happening.” In a state of confusion, Cherryl tilted the bottle and took a sip of the light, shimmering liquid. At that moment, her mouth felt as if it were on fire, and her vision blurred. Closing her eyes tightly, she felt the flame rush down her esophagus. A shiver ran through her body involuntarily.
“Ugh…” It was supposed to be him who should be drinking it, so why did she end up swallowing it from the beginning? “It’s too strong.”
Cherryl covered her mouth and tightly closed her eyes. The landscape reflected in her opened eyes seemed to shimmer like fog. Setting the bottle down, she rubbed her dizzy head. In that posture, she opened her eyes wider and stared at Cade. Cade observed her unstable state as if watching a camel appearing in the north, and he slightly tilted his head to the side. “Why did you drink the alcohol?”
“Well, why would I? It was a difficult question to answer.”
He raised an eyebrow. “It was just a question out of curiosity.”
“What?”
“I didn’t say anything about starting the game yet.”
“Oh.” Cherryl was taken aback and let out a sigh. “Is that it?”
“You tilted the bottle without any hesitation. I thought you proposed the game with the intention of drinking as much alcohol as you wanted.”
What the heck? There was no time for her to react at all! Cherryl widened her eyes, trying to shake off the haziness, to glare at Cade but she didn’t have anything to say in particular. There was no indication that the game had started, and his question naturally followed after she finished speaking. Cherryl felt embarrassed for no reason that she hesitated and ended up drinking the penalty of her own accord.
“That’s not fair. Then let’s start from now.”
“Ask your question.”
“Beginners go first.”
With an indifferent expression, Cade immediately opened his mouth. “What is your favorite color?”
It was a random question. Cherryl narrowed her eyes as if trying to gauge his intentions before giving her answer. “I like the color green.”
“Why?”
“Cade, in this game, we take turns asking and answering only one question each time.”
It was the first time she had encountered someone asking about their favorite color in a truth game. He seemed to have failed to fully understand the game. Should she explain the rules or not? Cherryl herself thought it would be better not to tell him so that she could make him drink without taking a single drop herself. However, she wanted the game to be conducted fairly, so she let out a sigh at her own kindness and opened her mouth. “In this ‘truth or dare’ game, it’s an implicit rule to ask questions that are difficult to answer. That way, we can make the other person drink.” Cade showed no sign of wavering and simply shrugged his shoulders. “Understood. Now it’s your turn, ask me a question.”
