“Mom, what’s wrong?”

Today, Li Qianfei had come to visit her mother. Lately, she had been in high spirits because Li Xiao hadn’t returned after a week. Things didn’t seem to be in Li Xiao’s favor.

After this long, Li Xiao was surely defeated by Zeng Lunian. With Li Xiao gone, no one would cause trouble for Li Qianfei, so of course, Li Qianfei was exceptionally delighted. But when she came to visit her mother, Zhan Jiayin was blankly staring out the window.

Suddenly, Li Xiao blurted, “Mom, if Li Xiao isn’t here, her property will go back to Dad, right?”

She knew that Li Xiao had a mall and a building in an affluent district, which made Li Qianfei furious. Her father hadn’t given her any shares. In comparison to Li Xiao, Li Qianfei was poor.

With a complicated expression on her face, Zhan Jiayin said, “Li Xiao came home today. One hour ago, she called the chauffeur to come to pick her up from the airport.”

The news rattled Li Qianfei’s mind. It took a while for Li Qianfei to gather her thoughts once more.

“How’s that possible?” Li Qianfei murmured. “How is she back?”

Then what had happened to Uncle Zeng?

How could Uncle Zeng have lost to Li Xiao?

Inside Li Qianfei’s mind, the all-powerful Zeng Lunian who had bankrupted the Xu family was invincible. Li Xiao, on the other hand, was a beginner, who hadn’t even been studying Taoism for over two years.

When Li Qianfei found out that Li Xiao had challenged Uncle Zeng to a duel, she was amused, convinced that Li Xiao would finally die. Li Xiao’s delayed return had overjoyed Li Qianfei, so she had even ordered a few new designer bags for herself.

Who would have expected Li Xiao to come home?

Li Qianfei was at a loss for words, and she couldn’t help but tremble in fear. If Zeng Lunian failed to defeat Li Xiao, would that mean she would come after Li Qianfei and her mother now? Li Qianfei was sure Li Xiao must despise her.

Li Qianfei whispered “No way! Maybe she didn’t even go to Yun Miao Mountain!” as a mantra in an attempt to ease her mind.

Right, she must be right!

Zhan Jiayin’s eyes began to water. “Lunian told me he’d give me a call after he resolved things with Li Xiao. But I haven’t received any calls from him. I called him multiple times, but he didn’t pick up.”

Li Qianfei’s return shattered what little hope Zhan Jiayin had. There was no way Zeng Lunian would ignore her phone calls. Over the years, she had fostered an amazing relationship with him, and treated him like her best friend.

Zhan Jiayin was aware that he was doing something very dangerous this year, but he always reassured her that he would be fine. If he succeeded, he would be able to protect her better. But she never thought that they would have to part so soon.

Gloomily, Zhang Jiayin stood up and said, “Let’s go home and meet Li Xiao.” She had to know whether Zeng Lunian had really died or not.

Li Qianfei pursed her lips and squeezed her phone in her palm.

If Li Xiao had really killed Uncle Zeng, that would make Li Xiao a murderer, right? So Li Qianfei would be able to report her to the police, right?

When Li Qianfei’s brother was turned in, she had a sneaking suspicion it was because of Li Xiao, but she couldn’t find any evidence to back it up. If Li Xiao could be sent in, Li Qianfei was sure she’d be found guilty.

Determined, Li Qianfei headed to the bathroom to make a phone call.

Li Xiao hadn’t returned to the Li residence for over half a month. When she came back, she felt as though the place had changed quite a bit and was much less charismatic.

Qu Lian still had the same indifferent expression, so Li Xiao didn’t bother to talk to her.

Upon noticing Li Xiao’s behavior, Qu Lian became even angrier. “I heard you don’t attend school anymore. Your father spent so much money to send you there.”

Li Nanjue was rather tolerant toward Li Xiao, possibly because of his guilt. “Xiao Xiao doesn’t need to rely on a career from now on, so if she doesn’t want to go to school, she doesn’t have to,” he said.

Li Xiao smiled. “I’ll probably go through the procedures to drop out soon.”

There was no helping it. After taking a few classes, Li Xiao realized she didn’t have the talent for studying. If she had the time to study, she might as well study how to return to her original world.

Li Nanjue asked her where she would go for her National Day trip, and Li Xiao chose Yun Miao Mountain, saying she would climb it.

In the middle of their conversation, Li Qianfei and Zhan Jiayin came back.

When Zhan Jiayin saw Li Xiao fully intact, she had mixed feelings. She wanted to ask Li Xiao about Zeng Lunian, but didn’t want to do so before anyone else did.

If Li Nanjue discovered about the fight between Li Xiao and Zeng Lunian, he would be angry at Zhan Jiayin for hiding it.

Li Qianfei, on the other hand, was relaxed because she had called the police. She felt confident even as she watched Li Xiao smile.

‘Laugh all you want! You won’t be able to laugh later!’

“Ah! I have a gift for you.” Li Xiao suddenly remembered the badge in her bag. She continued, “I cooperated with the local authorities to get rid of an evil presence, and they gave me a special reward.”

When Li Xiao showed Li Qianfei the badge, Li Qianfei paled.

And when Zhan Jiayin saw it, tears cascaded down her face.
