Your Most Faithful Companion - Chapter 13
“Why do you always tease her? she’s much more interesting than the frenemies in your social circle.”
After Jiang Chun’s exit, Gu Kaiyang started to play around with her straw while giving Ji Mingshu a sidelong glance.
“That’s exactly why I mess with her. Don’t you think she looked like an angry penguin that walks like a duck? How adorable.”
Gu Kaiyang froze, pondering how to roll her eyes in a way that fully expressed the extent of her speechlessness.
After messing around with Jiang Chun and getting a full-body spa, Ji Mingshu’s mood became much better.
The truth was different from what she told Jiang Chun; Ji Mingshu actually had little contact with Cen Sen, whether when he was abroad or inland. Both would never think of actively looking for the other, not to mention accompanying each other at night. Whether they met at home also depended on chance.
And Ji Mingshu didn’t even want to have this minimal association with him after what happened this morning.
She didn’t go back to Clearwater this weekend. Instead, she was in her downtown apartment, being carefree and editing her blueprint.
She had to admit that Cen Sen’s sarcasm had impacted her self-esteem. Glancing back and forth between the blueprint and the photos that were taken on the night of the banquet, she suddenly felt lucky that interior designers typically didn’t take credit for this kind of work.
A continuous stream of business social invitations approached Cen Sen since he had just come back from Australia, so he didn’t return to Clearwater either. Besides, a great show is about to start in the company, how could the protagonist leave before the show ended?
–
On Monday, Junyi employees received another piece of shocking news following Cen Sen’s promotion notice that was announced on Friday.
The company network publicized the employee change notices regarding more than 10 upper-level officials, including Huang Peng, the current manager, who had shown severity to Cen Sen on the first day through his assistant.
To put it simply, these employee change notices meant layoffs.
Outside the CEO’s office on the 68th floor stood an array of bodyguards dressed in black.
The rare scene inside Junyi today—
Several upper-level officials arrived outside the CEO’s office bristled with anger, but all of them ended up being mercilessly dragged into the elevator by the bodyguards.
Some of the officials became dementia-like after being dragged out, going through the building floor by floor to curse out their anger; it was a gruesome scene.
Humans are strange; we would never remember the pain that we didn’t experience ourselves. If one saw the scene of Nan Cen’s headquarters being forcibly dominated by its branch companies a few years ago, today’s stage would be something trivial in comparison.
Cen Sen was much gentler this time; that time, he had told the bodyguards to force the officials out of the building.
The last official who arrived outside the CEO’s office was Huang Peng.
From his name, one would probably think that he had a round body shape. But in reality, he appeared skinny with an exquisite sense of style and a gentle look.
At almost 60 years of age, he took care of himself so well that he looked like he was only in his forties. It wouldn’t be weird at all to describe him as someone elegant and graceful.
“Have a seat, Uncle Huang.”
Cen Sen invited him to the seat humbly, but Huang Peng couldn’t maintain the calm posture that signified “everything is under his control” like he did before.
“I don’t dare to associate myself with Executive Cen.” He stood very still, and his voice revealed coldness.
“What made Uncle Huang say this? You’ve contributed many accomplishments at Junyi and always stood up for me when my father criticized my doings when I was younger. You deserve to be my “Uncle Huang“ both personally and professionally.”
