Your Most Faithful Companion - Chapter 26
“What the f***! Isn’t that Jiang Chun’s fiance, Yan Yu? And that woman… walk closer so I can see them more clearly!” Gu Kaiyang’s gossiping spirit was fired up. “It’s her! The second female lead of that recent drama! And that Yan Yu is so inhumane. How can he have an affair right after his engagement! Wait, should I refer to this as an extramarital affair or cheating?”
Despite 2 days without sleep, her enthusiasm was relentless, and it made Ji Mingshu confirm that Gu Kaiyang was truly meant to be an outstanding paparazzo was always on standby in the front lines.
Ji Mingshu had to lower her earbuds’ volume to continue listening to Gu Kaiyang’s bombardment of information.
After hearing 30 seconds worth of the woman next to Yan Yu’s dark history from Gu Kaiyang, who was continuing with no signs of tiredness, Ji Mingshu pushed her sunglasses upwards and finally stopped Gu Kaiyang in a low voice, “That’s enough, are you planning to write a biography about her with all these details you know?”
Gu Kaiyang’s stare intensified through the phone screen as the couple intimately walked into the elevator arm in arm. When their faces were clearly shown on the screen, she took a screenshot.
Gu Kaiyang couldn’t help but hint at Ji Mingshu, “Follow them and see where they stay.”
“Are you crazy? It’s not my husband who’s having an affair.”
Besides, why would she do something so wretched?
She tilted her head slightly and pushed her sunglasses up once again, shopping as if nothing had happened.
It was dull shopping alone. Ji Mingshu only bought 3 handbags, a pair of shoes, and a trench coat before visiting Gu Kaiyang’s workplace to have lunch together.
In the afternoon, she headed back to the hotel, waiting to be driven to the haute couture factory to try on the dress.
Thinking of her new dress, she was in a good mood upon waking up from her afternoon nap; she even had a silent concert playing in her head as she left the hotel.
“Ji Mingshu?” Someone called from behind as she was just about to exit.
This voice sounded familiar. Ji Mingshu turned around and saw Jiang Chun standing by, wearing a pink dress and a beret on her head, with a hotel staff carrying her suitcases.
Ji Mingshu froze for a second before slowly taking off her sunglasses.
Ji Mingshu’s reaction satisfied Jiang Chun. Even though she hated Ji Mingshu, she had to admit that Ji Mingshu had a great sense of fashion. Since Ji Mingshu froze upon seeing her, it must mean that her dressing style is pretty good? Jiang Chun suddenly became proud as she thought of this.
“Why are you here?” Ji Mingshu asked.
Jiang Chun thought Ji Mingshu wanted to taunt her because none of the brands had invited her, so she subconsciously replied, “It’s not as if your family owns this hotel.”
After speaking, she fell silent, suddenly remembering that Junyi purchased this hotel a year ago. It was indeed owned by Ji Mingshu’s family.
Jiang Chun quickly reacted and added to her previous words, “Paris isn’t your backyard, so Ms. Ji, aren’t you caring too much? Yan Yu recently traveled to Paris for work, and I came here to give him a surprise; is that not ok?”
She straightened her back upon mentioning her fiance.
“… Surprise?” Ji Mingshu didn’t know what expressions she should show.
“Yeah. At least my Yan Yu provides me with the address of his workplace, unlike your Executive Cen, who you won’t see for an entire year when he gets busy.”
Ji Mingshu was speechless about Jiang Chun’s childish arrogance, but a sense of pity also arose.
Jiang Chun wasn’t originally from Ping City. However, her father’s capability transformed their family from living in a small city near the ocean and relying on the government’s demolition compensation to becoming the overlords of the catering industry, earning buckets of legitimate money. Thanks to her dad’s ambition, when their entire family moved to Ping City a few years back and successfully entered the upper class, Jiang Chun got engaged with the Yan family’s son.
The Yan family was once a notable household, but their growth stagnated with each generation in addition to lacking the luck and ability to start new business opportunities; they were already starting to appear less powerful.
The marriage between the two families was a perfect example of the classic mutual alliance formed between the new money and old money.
Initially, it wouldn’t be a big deal whether any of them cheated in this alliance marriage; in fact, it was customary for them to each go their way after marriage. If Ji Mingshu ever witnessed anything accidentally, she wouldn’t say a thing in front of the other person either. The most she would do is gossip about it with her friends at their leisure.
