Your Most Faithful Companion - Chapter 28
She turned her head and walked to Jiang Chun’s side.
Not waiting for her to speak, Jiang Chun shouted at her while crying, “I don’t want your pretentious kindness! You must think I’m a joke, right?! Do you think your husband is any better? None of them are good people!”
“……”
“… Whether my husband is a good person is none of your business.”
People who have delusions of persecution have always annoyed Ji Mingshu. Since Jiang Chun thought that way, Ji Mingshu retracted the ‘pretentious’ comforting words that she was about to say. Putting on her sunglasses, she walked away coolly in her high heels.
–
Jiang Chun’s words didn’t affect Ji Mingshu’s good mood for trying on her dress.
Ji Mingshu had already tried on the demo of this airy blue lace dress last time, and the tailor had made some adjustments to fit her figure. Now that everything was fixed, she was pretty satisfied with the overall look.
Someone helped her film a short video, and she sent it to Gu Kaiyang.
Gu Kaiyang was probably busy and didn’t get to see the video; she still hadn’t replied after a while.
Ji Mingshu suddenly had a new idea. She applied a filter that gave her a fresher look in the video and sent it to Cen Sen.
From Ji Mingshu: How does it look? It’s my new dress.
It was nighttime in Ping City when Ji Mingshu sent the message. Its sky appeared as if it was covered in layers of grayish-blue curtains, with the roads slowly brightened up by the street lamps.
After his meeting, Cen Sen took his phone from Zhou Jiaheng and skimmed through it.
There were many unread messages; the consumption reminders from his credit card, followed by Ji Mingshu’s Wechat message.
They rarely contacted each other, and even if they did, they would always call instead of messaging, so it surprised him to see her take the initiative to message him.
He loosened his tie while clicking open the video.
The video was only ten seconds long, showing Ji Mingshu lifting her dress and twirling around twice, with a last turn and wink at the camera.
He watched it once, then twice, then a third time.
Standing beside Cen Sen, Zhou Jiaheng realized that Cen Sen was watching the same video repeatedly. He was curious about what Cen Sen was watching, but he also didn’t dare to peek.
Cen Sen only stopped playing when they returned to the office.
Ji Mingshu’s message appeared after the video on his chat window, and he simply replied, “Pretty,” Not knowing whether he really meant it or was just being pretentious.
Ji Mingshu’s good mood lightened further, seeing that Cen Sen didn’t act in his usual arrogant manner when replying to her message. “Does it convey the feeling of the so-called “Flirtatious yet a bit innocent, bitchy yet a bit high-end” as described on the web?” Ji Mingshu texted back in interest.
Cen Sen looked through the billing details in silence and corrected her, “I don’t think this counts as only a bit high-end.”
How did she dare to say that a dress worth 100,000 only counts as a just bit high end?
“When did Mrs. Ji arrive in Paris?” Cen Sen lifted his head and asked Zhou Jiaheng.
“At 5 am today,” answered Zhou Jiaheng after a pause.
He continued speaking, reporting all the activities that Ji Mingshu had planned over the next few days–mostly about attending some shows — and meal invites from upper-level brand supervisors.
“She’s pretty busy,” Cen Sen commented plainly, with his thoughts unknown.
Zhou Jiaheng lowered his head knowingly without continuing the conversation.
Meanwhile, Ji Mingshu was in a sunny mood.
Cen Sen’s “I don’t think this counts as only a bit high end,” evoked her narcissism, taking it as praise. As a result, she decided to buy Cen Sen a necktie clip for encouragement.
Just then, her Wechat notification rang.
As expected, Chief in-editor Gu’s flatter will never be absent.
From Gu Kaiyang: “Criesss, what an extraordinary fairy you are!”
From Gu Kaiyang: “The dress isn’t the high-end design! You are!”
From Gu Kaiyang: “My precious baby is so attractive when she invests in her look!!!”
From Gu Kaiyang: “How much money does mommy need to earn to steal you from that shitty man?!”
Where there is no comparison, there is no harm.
Ji Mingshu took a screenshot of the chat and sent it to Cen Sen, showing him the right way to comment.
Cen Sen’s eyes fixated on the words “Shitty man” from Gu Kaiyang’s last message.
… So that’s how they referred to him privately.
