I Became The Childhood Friend of the Obsessive Second Male Lead - Chapter 369
“So that’s why I shouted at him! I said, ‘I got it! You’re the bad guy!’”
Everet grinned as he recounted the incident where he had helped Sir Knox.
“How did you make that judgment when you don’t even know the Kingdom’s language?”
Rieta asked, handing him a warm cup of water.
“It was simple. When he said the Princess’ name, it just felt sinister. That man.”
Everet pointed his chin at Moody, who was shivering in his tightly bound restraints and coughed loudly.
“Is it okay to judge people based on feelings alone? What if you were wrong? It could have been a big problem.”
“A big problem?”
“If Everet or Hugh Mclean had gotten hurt or something…”
“Well, in the end, I was right, so it’s fine, right?”
Everet thumped his chest proudly and looked at Knox. He wanted Knox to say that his reasoning was correct too.
When discussing Rieta’s whereabouts, Knox had mentioned that she was going to get married, but Everet disagreed. He was sure she would try to return to the castle. Everet hesitated a bit before telling Knox his thoughts.
“Rieta?”
Knox understood that as a boastful ‘Was I right?’ and turned his head abruptly.
“Sir Knox.”
Rieta approached him. Knox quickly assumed a knightly posture.
“I’m glad you’re safe, Princess.”
“I’m glad Sir Knox is safe. Oh, and…”
Rieta lowered her head slightly. She owed him something.
“I’m sorry about that night.”
“. . .”
“I was wrong in my judgment. I shouldn’t have collapsed like that.”
Knox couldn’t bring himself to say, ‘It’s not your fault’. In fact, he had been disappointed by Rieta’s judgment as well.
However, now that they were facing each other calmly, some different thoughts crossed his mind. He hadn’t realized it in the hectic events of that night, the Princess was just as young as the two Princes.
In that situation where lives were at stake, who could say who was wrong to a child who hadn’t yet grown up? Knox shook his head.
“. . . No.”
“Thank you for your generous words.”
Her smile showed a hint of determination.
Knox was now convinced that she would never turn away.
No matter what death stood before her, she would continue moving forward, thinking about what comes next.
“Sir Knox, what about the soldiers who came with you?”
“They’re coming this way. Come to think of it, they must all be pleased to see the Princess.”
He recalled the soldiers who had despaired at the King’s orders to sell off the people.
“They should arrive without issue. I left markers along the way.”
“In that case, it’s not a good idea to move hastily.’
“Yes.”
“Ah, that’s right.”
Rieta seemed to have remembered something and clasped her hands together and asked.
“Do you know anything about Vernon and Eddie?”
At the mention of the two people’s names, Knox’s expression darkened slightly. He slowly shook his head with a somber look.
“I’m sorry. I should have been protecting both of them…”
Rieta suddenly remembered that he was proclaiming himself as ‘the knight of the Princes,’ just as she had Elisha for herself. Knox served the Princes.
“My mercenary saw it when he received the orders. Even though they were just standing behind the king…”
“The two of them…?!”
Knox asked urgently, and Rieta quickly provided an answer.
“He said they were healthy and handsome.”
Knox let out a noticeably deep sigh of relief. It had been a few weeks since then, and the situation might have changed now, but he was still grateful.
“Thank you for telling me.”
“Because I know Sir Knox values the two Princes very much.”
“Yes, they are the most important people to me. For their well-being… I would do anything.”
He emphasized the word ‘anything’ with particular strength. It somehow felt like he was encouraging himself, so Rieta smiled warmly.
“As the older sister of those children, that’s a very nice thing to hear.”
“Princess.”
“Yes?”
“Could I meet the mercenary who saw the Princes? I would like to hear more of the story, no matter how trivial.”
“Then let me go and get Emile.”
“No.”
He stood up as if he couldn’t wait any longer.
“I’ll go.”
“But Emile doesn’t know the Kingdom language, so it might be difficult…”
Rieta called Elisha, who was carrying a blanket nearby, to help with translating.
“Understood.”
Knox bowed low.
Just then, Noel and several soldiers who had gone hunting returned.
“Noel!”
Rieta quickly stood up from her seat and approached him with a happy face. He would be surprised to find out who she had met while he was out hunting.
She jumped and approached him, but Noel took a step back in fright.
“Don’t come closer, I smell like blood.”
“Noel, are you hurt?!’
“No, I just had some bad luck and got covered with animal blood. I’ll wash up and be back, so just wait… Huh?”
His words came to a halt at a strange point.
He spotted Hugh Mclean and Everett Hewit warming themselves to the fire.
