I Left the Time-limited Villainous Duke Without Saving Him - Chapter 37.1
The day the tea party is held at Mattia’s residence. Christine entered the mansion with Yelena.
“Oh, Miss Christine! I heard you are sick. Are you okay now?”
Despite the appearance of the uninvited guest, Lady Victoria remained calm.
Behind her unconcerned appearance there was a sarcastic comment, ‘You said you couldn’t come to my party because you were sick? But what is this now?’
“Yes, it was just a slight cold. I really wanted to see Miss Victoria, but my father told me off. I barely came here with my sister. Hoho, I’m sorry for making you worry.”
“What a relief. Please sit.”
Another chair was placed in front of the large round table in Mattia’s greenhouse. Christine smiled and sat quietly.
“Ah, Miss Yelena, please come this way.”
Yelena, who was about to sit quietly next to Christine, hesitated at Victoria’s gesture.
Even if it was a tea party among children, the seats were decided. In descending order, with Lady Victoria at the center of the highest rank.
However, Lady Victoria ignored all of that and seated a Count’s daughter, Yelena next to her.
Instead of showing displeasure, the ladies who were higher in rank than Yelena smiled and moved to the side one by one. It was a privilege that Christine, who claimed to be Victoria’s best friend, had never been given.
But Christine’s purpose today is not to sit by Victoria’s side. So she didn’t even have to get agitated.
“I heard that Miss Yelena is on good terms with Miss Betty. I heard that you decorated each other with flowers even at banquets?”
“Oh, I really wonder how you came to be acquainted with Miss Betty.”
Yelena sat down next to Lady Victoria, observing her mood, and smiled politely.
She couldn’t help but be cautious. Even at the Flower Fairy Ball, people who had been gossiping about Betty changed their attitude in an instant.
Yelena, of course, knew something about the rules of society.
According to the rules of society, Betty has made a very successful entrance into the noble society. Even if it’s using gossip, it’s important to go up and down in people’s mouths.
Still, Yelena wanted only good rumors about Betty, and in order to do that, she thought it best to open her mouth after grasping the atmosphere.
“It is embarrassing to say that we are close friends. I’ve only seen her a couple of times.”
“Please tell me anyway, Miss Yelena. I’m really into the commoner kid I recently met.”
“Should I tell you all the details? I think it will be fun.”
Yelena was not a witty young lady. As she chose her words, considering this and that situation, of course it became a long-dragging and frustrating story. Christine put up with her older sister’s tedious retelling of the story.
Perhaps it was difficult to bear, Lady Victoria interjected and directed the conversation as she wished.
“That’s a very interesting story, Miss Yelena. I had no idea Miss Betty was such a strong person. Even in front of Duke Janus, she didn’t shy away and made it clear what she was going to say.”
“That’s right, Miss Betty also fought against the Marin gang to save her friends.”
“Oh, really? But what about Marquisate Marin these days…… well, they were banished from the capital’s mansion?”
“It is said that that was also ordered by Miss Betty. You know, who caused Marin to end up on the street?”
When the story they wanted to hear came out, the ladies got excited and added word by word.
Betty is holding the leash of Duke Janus, and is proud even in front of the great nobles. It was even said that the messy dance at the ball was done on purpose.
“You can tell just by looking at it, right? It was on purpose that she didn’t dance well. It was like making a declaration to us. ‘I will not follow your customs. Laugh if you want to laugh.’ Like that.”
“Oh my, that’s cool.”
Were they gossiping about the angelic Betty saying that she’s rude? The naive Yelena opened her mouth to defend Betty quickly.
“Betty? No, you misunderstood something. As far as I know, she is a gentle and kind child like an angel.”
“At first, I thought Miss Betty was such a boring person. however…… Oh my, look over there!”
Lady Victoria suddenly pointed to a place outside the glass greenhouse. If it had been done by someone else, it would have been treated with unparalleled rudeness. But the ladies of the tea party turned their heads toward it without saying a word.
They could see the three children diligently walking as the servants of Duke Mattia’s residence guided them. It was Betty, Elizabeth, and Alexandra.
Victoria, who had been following the little red-haired child moving through the glass walls of the greenhouse, suddenly said to Yelena,
“Unbelievable! Come to think of it, today was Miss Betty’s visit! Miss Yelena, could you please introduce me to Miss Betty?”
Apparently, Betty has business elsewhere, so how could she ask for an introduction? Yelena was puzzled, but the answer was fixed.
Yelena quickly nodded her head, hiding her unresolved questions.
