I Left the Time-limited Villainous Duke Without Saving Him - Chapter 37.2
Duke Mattia’s role in <Just a Small-fry Villain> was not that great.
He is a clever man with a pleasant, generous and laid-back personality that often is lazy, and sometimes even helps Christine and the others. At least he’s not unlikable.
As if to represent the owner’s personality, Mattia’s garden did not lose its freshness even in late winter, and the servants’ gestures were somewhat lighthearted.
I forgot that Lady Veronica had our weakness and was intoxicated with the fresh mood.
Until we were escorted to Lady Veronica’s parlor on the third floor of the mansion.
“I’m scared…….”
“Shh.”
Bloody red-wine wallpaper, furniture decorated with skulls and snakes carved from ebony wood. I don’t know what she was trying to express, but the sculptures made me feel bad.
The tea was served, but we didn’t even touch it. Because the teacup had a large tarantula drawn on it.
“Shall we have the tea when the Lady comes later?”
“Yes.”
Still, since it was the tea prepared by Lady Veronica, we should drink it. Even with this spider teacup that Lady Veronica cherished very much. We were treated as an honored guest in her own way, so we didn’t know what kind of wrath we would cause if we didn’t touch it.
We sat huddled on the black coffin-shaped sofa and waited for Lady Veronica to arrive.
Tick, tock.
While listening to the loud ticking of the second hand, I quietly got up from my seat.
“I’m going to the bathroom for a minute.”
Now that I think about it, it seems like it was a bad idea to have a drink while coming here. After all, a child’s body can’t hold anything for long. I was going to go after seeing Lady Veronica’s face, but now I’m at my limit.
I went to the bathroom with brisk steps, guided by the maid waiting in the parlor.
Fortunately, the bathroom at Mattia’s mansion was in perfect order. It was less modern or luxurious like the Janus mansion, but the overall atmosphere was elegant and warm.
I’m going to do my business comfortably and go back with a lighter feeling….But,
“Excuse me? Is anyone there?”
The maid who guided me here was nowhere to be seen.
‘Why did she leave me alone and disappear?’
Well, it seems that something unavoidable happened.
Circumstances that are difficult for employees to tell outsiders occur all the time.
Nobles who don’t know such details would be angry at times like this, saying, “You dare!”
‘It’s not that I’ve come far anyway, so I’ll just go back the way I came and go back to the parlor by myself.’
After thinking, I started walking.
But,
‘Where is this again?’
When I came to my senses, I was already lost.
As expected of a Duke’s mansion. I thought the structure would be simple because it looked simpler than the Janus mansion, but it was harder to find the way than I thought.
‘Ah, this is the picture I saw before going to the bathroom.’
But this is the same noble mansion right? I quickly entered a familiar place.
‘If I turn left here and open the first door …….’
The curtains are closed, not a single light can enter. Visible from the dim light from the hallway, the interior was heavily curtained.
When I figured out where this place was, my shoulders trembled.
The place I arrived was the Ducal couple’s bedroom.
‘I’ve reached the center of Mattia’s mansion!’
With the realization that I had completely lost my way, a sense of tension rose from my bones. Unlike before, when I opened the door without thinking, I carefully closed the door, holding my breath.
“Water.”
No, I was going to close it.
If I didn’t hear the low voice in the silence.
“It’s on the table.”
I looked at the arm of a grown man sticking out from between the curtains. Apparently, he mistook me for a servant. I entered the bedroom with a hunch that if I just shut the door and leave, things would get bigger.
The distance between the man’s arm and the water bottle on the table seemed less than 30cm.
Seeing as he was bothered to bring the water bottle literally right in front of his nose, the man behind the curtain must have been Duke Mattia.
Without saying a word, I walked in, grabbed the water bottle from the table, and passed it into the man’s hand. The hand holding the water bottle entered the curtain again.
Then came the sound of drinking water in a slow gulp behind the curtain.
And the man’s large hand, holding the water bottle, thrust out again from between the curtains. I put the water bottle on the table and turned around to walk out the door.
“Wait.”
Urgh.
“What time is it?”
Calm down! Calm down, me! All you have to do is make a voice!
There’s no way the Duke can remember all the voices of the maids who work in his house, and my voice is calmer and more mature than that of children my age. There’s no way he’ll notice that I’m not a servant.
‘What time is it by the way?’
As I slowly looked around, the man inside the curtain added.
“Don’t tell me Hilde has already come?”
Hilde is a nickname for Hildegard, the name of Duchess Mattia. I grasped at once what the lazy Duke Mattia was worried about.
“It will take a few more hours for Madam to arrive.”
“Ah. Wake me up then.”
Circumstances suggest that the Duchess seemed to have gone to a regular social gathering, but it seems to be true. The man behind the curtain rustled again and corrected his position under the blanket, as if he wanted to enjoy his honey-like sweet sleep while his wife was away.
